What is your favorite part of your job? I love the ever changing challenges. I’m a problem solver at heart.
Cris Jimenez - Pastry slinger
Originally from Worcester, attended Le Cordon Bleu for Pastry and Baking, Cris is in charge of our “unique desserts”; that is anything that isn’t finished in buttercream frosting! From glazing our Chocolate Fantasia, to decorating our shortbread cookies, or whipping up an assortment of mini pastries, Cris’ desserts are enjoyed by many!
What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part of working at Dessert Works is being able to do what I love for work every day. Another part I love is all of the new friends I have made while working here.
Kristyn Powell - chocolate artist extraordinaire
Originally from Walpole , she has a Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design and attended Johnson & Wales for an Associates in Baking and Pastry. Kristyn completed her internship here in 2012, and quickly took responsibility for our very custom rolled chocolate department. Kristyn spends her days creating 3-D sculptures or appliques (flat designs) of characters, patterns, shoes or figurines all out of rolled chocolate.
What is your favorite part of your job? My favorite part of working at Dessert Works is that my job is always evolving. Every week there are new appliques and 3-D sculptures to conquer. I am constantly being challenged and pushed to new levels. There is always something new to learn!
Anthony - cake artisan
Originally from Abington, with an Associates Degree in Baking and Pastry and Bachelors Degree in Food Service Management from Johnson and Wales University, Anthony builds all of the cakes, making the mousses from scratch, together with Sous chef David. Anthony has been decorating cakes at Dessert Works since 2012, in charge of making flowers, frosting & finishing orders as well as managing inventories & creating production reports. Such an enthusiastic team member, that Anthony also makes many cake deliveries, & heads up our Instagram & Facebook networking.
What is your favorite part of your job? My absolute favorite part of the job is on weekends when we have tons of orders and we do our decorating “rounds” as we call them. Watching the cakes go from oven, to filling, to frosting is amazing. I always say it takes a small army to do what we do here. I learn new things every day and I am always working to make myself and my work better.
Auz - Baker Superstar
Originally from Norwood, MA with an Associates in Baking and Pastry and a Bachelors in Food Service Management from Johnson and Wales University. Auz has been working at Dessert Works since 2006 when he started working in the store assisting customers. While attending JWU, Auz worked part time filling in on the pastry station, & cake departments. A force to be reckoned with, Auz now bakes all the cakes & pastries as well as makes doughs, custards, frostings, & ganache.
What is your favorite part of your job? I get to make cake for a living! Who wouldn’t love that? I like that it’s science, how the ingredients work together and what they all do fascinates me. I also love that everything we do at Dessert Works is made here, from scratch. When I started here, Kristen really took me under her wing and taught me to embrace the trade and I really have grown to love it. I have a lot of respect for the hard work and team environment here. I think that since I started here so young, that has given me an advantage. Everyone I work with here is so talented. The more I saw Kristen’s work and how much she strives to be the best, it has made a huge impact on me and has made me push myself to continue to produce a great product consistently. I’m proud of what I do. I work hard and continue to improve. Looking back I have learned so much. I’ve made mistakes, but they have made me better and there is no work I would rather be doing.
