Dessert Works prides itself on being a from scratch, to order bakery. All of our items are made on site using only fresh, natural, premium ingredients. This means we keep a very limited inventory, so when you order a cake it is made custom start to finish, specifically for your order.
Despite that every cake is made to order, in the past we’ve been quite flexible with payment and haven’t required deposits to be made at the time of orders. We ask for a credit card number to hold the order, and allow for payment in full at the time of pick up or prior to delivery.
Unfortunately, we recently received an order for a beautiful custom birthday cake, totaling $145 that was never picked up. The cake, shown below, was covered entirely in rolled chocolate, with a hand decorated quilting design, a pearl border, and a hand crafted white chocolate bow propped on the edge of the cake.
We were told that someone would be coming by to pick up the cake before 6pm, but no one showed up. After attempting to reach out to the customer for several days, we made a final call to let the customer know that we would be processing their given credit card number. It turned out to be a false card number. We never received payment for the cake and never heard back from anyone.
Going forward, we will be requiring a partial deposit at the time of the order for any custom specialty cakes.
We understand that there are situations and circumstances that may arise which would result in a need to cancel an already placed order, so we do offer a 48 hour change or cancellation policy. If you call and speak directly with a retail associate at least 48 hours from the scheduled date and time of pick up, we will be able to work to make changes to your cake or to cancel your order. After the 48 hour window, we assume that an order will be picked up and paid in full at the scheduled time.
